Matrimonial Ads Hindustan Times

Figuring out these matrimonial ads is like solving a cryptogram. Much of the info is astrological - very important in Indian matches. Most marriages are
still arranged. The divorce rate is about 5%. There are strengths to this system and obviously weaknesses. Although it's a horrifying idea to most of us, in the west, who prefer to meet our potential mates randomly, when drunk and in heat, parental choices frequently work out.

My favorite on this page is the ad posted by the effluent family....the goyal daughter with the MBA must be cringing. High status; lousy spellers. Homely means oriented to home life; one can be a beautiful, homely woman. Although the caste system is illegal, people usually marry within their caste .In some of these ads, "caste is no barrier."

Castes....the simplified version:
  • Brahma A (now more commonly spelled Brahmin): Consist of those engaged in scriptural education and teaching, essential for the continuation of knowledge.
  • Kshatriya: Take on all forms of public service, including administration, maintenance of law and order, and defense.
  • Vaishya: Engage in commercial activity as businessmen.
  • Shudra: Work as semi-skilled and unskilled laborers.

The current PM's caste status from Wiki....
Modi's family belonged to the Modh-Ghanchi-Teli (oil-presser) community, which is categorised as an Other Backward Class by the Indian government.Modi was the third of six children born to Damodardas Mulchand (1915-1989) and Heeraben Modi (b. c. 1920).As a child, Modi helped his father sell tea at the Vadnagar railway station, and later ran a tea stall with his brother near a bus terminus.

Modi has excellent ideas for the country. Foreign investment has increased, roads and railways are improving. Digital India is his dream and as an introverted social media type, maybe he'll get there. Imagine wiping out the bureaucracy in India!  They were still using sales books with three carbons last time we were here.

  1. I like the innocent divorcee...

  2. Scary. Although in our country, online dating services are essentially the same thing.

  3. Arranged Indian marriages have a 65% happiness quotient after a certain period of time which I confess to now forget... American about 50%. Might as well throw a dart at a board.
