A Day of Culture

Last night we enjoyed a light dinner at a local mezze restaurant. The mural depicting the three founders caught our fancy.

What better way to start today than with soft shell crabs for brunch at the Nam Vietnam Restaurant also conveniently in our backyard. Our apartment in the Avalon Courthouse building has a super location within walking or metro distance of almost everything. Here's our companions for the day, Ashley and Dave.

They arranged for us to attend a concert by "The President's Own" United States Marine Band. Wonderful musicians, reputedly mostly Julliard graduates played in various configurations...a quartet, a trio, and a horn ensemble. Even a discordant Stravinsky ( Soulima, not Igor) was enjoyable because of the musicianship.

We had just enough time to get back to our apartment, change and get over to the Kennedy center to see "The Curious incident of the Dog in the Night Time." On the shuttle bus from the Metro to the theatre we began a conversation with another couple about Uncruises...I was wearing my jacket emblazoned with the Cruise Lines name. An attractive woman sitting next to Richard joined in and we walked and chatted with her from the bus into the theatre. As she and Richard got ahead of me I asked them to stop and took a picture of the grand foyer. Then she said as we now had a photo of her she'd tell us she was the Ambassador to Gabon, Cynthia Akuetteh. Only in DC.

Here is Cynthia's official photo as Madame Ambassador.

The performance was excellent...wonderful staging. What a daring idea to create a play about an autistic person. Several scenes were designed to give the viewer an impression of what an autistic experiences in what we think of as ordinary situations...being touched or being in a noisy environment. You felt it.
